In response to radhika's blog: this is about songs.... and the people attached to them. Which do I like more... the song or the person... ???....It does not matter.

1. As weird as it may sound: I sing the Loreto Chorus. Every time when I'm about to go on stage. Silently, sometimes all of it, and at time just the lines that I feel I need. I used to do it unconsciously in school. At all the school fests, looking at the other half a dozen uniforms.... I would sing it. i did it all throughout college. It didn't matter,..... I was a comfortably labeled misfit. Nothing I did bothered anyone eventually.

2. Yellow: Of late... I listen to it often. I don't attempt to sing it. That is not for me to sing. This song is Bhai's song. Another two songs in the same strain: a Sheryl Crow's version of " Sweet Child of Mine"; not particularly good... But its how I feel. "Come Together".... a funny song for the Funny Bhai.... in a Fun way.

3. Queen.... though I still listen to them when I'm in my most rebellious, and bothered mood, i remember i had done an action waltz to " Bohemian Rhapsody" in Anushree's room one afternoon. Totally impromptu and very comical, Anushree was too stunned to laugh aloud, but her face clearly told me that this was the funniest thing about me she had seen ever.
In return, she gave me "Vienna" many years later..... at a time when I needed . She just knew.

4. Ma: a lot of Nana Mouskouri, Simon and Garfunkel and Gospel music..... but what she gave, and I never found later was " Muktirer Mondirer" ... a song for Freedom(?).... and Ek Jhak Chonchol Paira"....( translated: A flock of Pigeons) by the CalcuttaChoir.

5. Radhika: ruler drumming, head banging and feet thumping to " I Want to Break Free" at our desks was a favorite and frequently indulged in. against the backdrop of our school, and even otherwise...( coz we never really felt we needed to break free.... we were WILD)...physics class, Chem Lab, to get onto a teachers nerves, to protest, bcoz we were happy, because we couldnt think of anything else to do at that moment...... that was the song.
as of now: my song to her: "Hey there Delilah"...... and i like that we both stay awake , and have conversations( through more than one medium) to "Champagne Supernova"....she while is studying... and me in office.... so what there are some three oceans between us.

6. Sting: responsible for my first towards becoming human, responsible for my love song, gave me poetry onve when i was in the desert, solo watzes in the rain..... I found Atri with "Fragile". And he played it again for me after 8 years on a night terrace in CR Park, in golden lighting and mellow whiskey......

7. A bunch of songs that were many diff people in me.....Del Leppard, "Nightswimming",Mark Knopffler, Bon Jovi, Anita Kerr, "Eye in the sky", Queen and Sting of course.... Rolling Stones all the way. "Free Falling","Tequila Sunrise", John Denver, Billy Joel( i do not think Bob Dylan is so hot) Aerosmith, Floyd..... Simon and Garfunkel are still my Gods. Joan Baez..... these are just the ones I remember now. No preference, no order....

8. U2, " A lady in red" , "love will keep us alive" and certain tracks of Aerosomith:.... still very painful to listen to. A lot of other songs we used to listen to on the car stereo.A.... thou art a pain indeed.:)

9. The SXC boys: Wayne, Vishal, Kurtz and Kenan, Johann.... Wayne sung REM "Everybody Hurts" at Xavo '99... " Dedicated to all the LH girls sitting there". Solo, him on the Guitar, Alex lopez on the Drums and Keith on the keyboard. The Daunt brothers singing to " Walk of Life".
vishal, johanne and Bhai singing/ screeeeeching solo parts to Christmas carols at the winter concerts.... supervised by Mrs. Joseph and Mr Menezes. I loved those.

i have other songs too...... 4592 on my Ipod. Audioslave to mozart.:)

Hey, you left out our phone-songs.
"....He will guide you, He will comfort you....." You haven't sung to me over the phone in a long time!!!

You know what, the Loreto Chorus has a strange way of calming me down as well. I sing it sometimes when I'm stressed. I also sing hymns pretty often... just because it reminds me of happier times when an extended break made us the happiest people in the world.

And, I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS think of you when I listen to I Want to Break Free. :)
